Nestled in the region of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California, you will find North Hollywood. North Hollywood is a land of major stories and celebrity homes.

One of the most popular news stories to ever hit the airways took place on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in North Hollywood. Two gunmen, who were heavily armed where caught in the act at the Bank of America. For several hours, the area between Vanowen Street and Victory Boulevard looked much like a combat zone. The gunmen, dressed in full body armor, yielded superior firepower to the police on the scene. Out-gunned, law officers found additional weapons at a shop in North Hollywood.

The shootout lasted for over an hour. There were bullets all over the place, striking buildings, cars and passers-by. The two robbers were eventually killed, fifteen others, including ten police officers, were injured. There were over two hundred members of law enforcement present that day. The events were televised in a live broadcast and later made into a movie in 2003.

Perhaps, the suspects involved were stressed by the cold February weather and just needed some cash for furnace repair. North Hollywood might have been a quieter place that day had the gunmen called West Coast Chief Repair. Then, they would have known that you do not need to rob a bank to pay for furnace repair in North Hollywood.

Furnace Repair Agoura Hills – Troubleshooter

Be the first to comment

On most older gas furnaces, there is a “pilot light” (newer ones tend to have electronic ignition instead). It serves to light the flame of the larger gas burner that powers your furnace. Because the flame on your heater is extinguished when the air in the home reaches the desired temperature, there must be some way for the furnace to re-light itself the next time the heater comes on. Voila! The pilot light. It stays on all the time, using a very small amount of gas, and is always there to light the larger burner. Except, sometimes it goes out. Windy days, drafts, whatever. But wait! Hold that call to furnace repair!

Agoura Hills’ heaters are no different than heaters anywhere else. Re-lighting the pilot light is fairly easy (unless there’s a deeper problem). Here’s what to do.

The easiest thing to do is check inside the door of your furnace (or possibly the instruction manual, if you still have it) to see if there are instructions for your specific model to re-light the pilot light. No luck? All right. First, turn the thermostat as high as it will go. Next, find the pilot light assembly (usually a box-shaped metal thing) and turn the valve on it to “Off” (it usually says things like “On,” “Pilot,” and “Off”). Wait 3-5 minutes for any residual gas to clear. Now, turn the valve to “Pilot,” and use a fireplace match to light the pilot light inside. Slowly turn the pilot valve to “On,” so it can turn on and off as the heater requires.

And don’t forget to turn your heater thermostat back down!

Didn’t solve the problem?   Not comfortable troubleshooting on your own?  Time to call an experienced service technician for furnace repair – Agoura Hills has some of the best around!

Furnace Installation Santa Clarita

Be the first to comment

“I wish they all could be California Girls…” Clearly the Beach Boys weren’t in Southern California in January, when it can be downright chilly. Best thing then is to have a nice working furnace, and you can forget about catching a wave. So, what do you do if there’s no comforting hum when you turn up the thermostat? You can try having someone come out and take a look at it, and chances are most of the time it will be something that can be repaired fairly easily (at least, easier than replacing the whole thing). Still, experts say the average furnace should last about 15 years or so—and then it’s time to buy a new furnace, and look at what all goes into furnace installation.

Santa Clarita is no different than any other town—there are plenty of contractors just waiting to install your new heater for you. Why let them do it instead of just doing it yourself? Well, for one thing, there’s the whole carbon monoxide issue. Gas furnaces (which Santa Clarita residents use almost exclusively) also produce carbon monoxide, which if it’s not properly vented to the outside, can be deadly. A second reason has already been sort mentioned above: chances are you won’t be purchasing the exact same model furnace as the one you’re replacing. What that translates to in your home may be just a few small adjustments—or it can mean a nightmare of questions. “Does the green wire on the new one correspond to the white wire on the old one? And what about the red wire…” For these, and many other reasons, you may want to seriously consider asking about furnace installation packages when you go shopping for a new furnace.

Emergency Furnace Repair Los Angeles

Be the first to comment

Most people don’t do any kind of maintenance on their heatings systems in Los Angeles during the summer months. Heck, most of us don’t even remember we have one in July, when the average temperature is like 90 degrees. But come December, boy, it sure can come in handy to have a working heater. And what do you have if you flick on the thermostat after 8 months of silence and absolutely nothing happens? An emergency, that’s what. But try googling “emergency furnace repair Los Angeles,” and you get 2,700 companies to choose from—and that’s just in Los Angles proper! How do you make sure you get the best deal, and don’t end up getting ripped off?

First of all, and most importantly, if you smell gas, LEAVE THE BUILDING IMMEDIATELY. Do not wait to call anyone, certainly DO NOT light any matches and try to light the pilot light, just leave as quickly as possible. You can call the furnace repairman from the neighbor’s house, if necessary. If you don’t smell any gas, but the furnace doesn’t light, check the switch (usually a blue or red switch located near the boiler). A second thing to try is that the circuit breaker or fuse is not blown, usually located with the rest of the house circuit breakers. If neither of these problems is apparent, a good idea is to check around with people you know, and see if any of them have had a particularly good experience with HVAC (that’s “heating/ventilation/air conditioning) repairmen that they could recommend.

Los Angeles Furnace

Be the first to comment

In Los Angeles, furnace size, or heating capacity is a very important factor. This is measured in BTUs, or British Thermal Units. A furnace is rated by the fuel energy amount that it takes in when it is operational. Different furnaces that have the same input BTUs will generally feature different output BTUs if the efficiency ratings of each furnace are different.

A furnace’s output BTUs can be calculated easily in accordance with the efficiency rating of each unit and the input BTUs. All you have to do is multiply the input BTUs by the efficiency percentage. For instance, a 10,000 BTU furnace with an 80% efficiency rating produces 8,000 BTUs output of heat. On the other hand, a 10,000 BTU furnace that has a 95% efficiency rating produces 95,000 BTUs output of heat.

You want to make sure that the unit you purchase for your home is not too large. This is because it will come on and turn off too often, which is not efficient. In addition, it can build up moisture in the heat exchanger, damaging the unit over time. Likewise, you do not want to purchase a unit that is too small because it will not heat your home properly. The furnace that you purchase needs to be the correct size for your home. In Los Angeles, furnace questions are easily answered by the skilled technicians at West Coast Chief Repair.
